Final reminder of orders for club clothing. I'm on holiday with club in Font next week until 8th April. After that no more orders OK?
I find it hard to believe it has been a year since I took over as Meets Secretary from the talented Michelle Aukland. So many great things have happened since then and it was nice to write my report for the AGM and to reflect on the awesome times I've enjoyed with my fellow Bowliners and friends (If you'd like to read the report I've included it at the bottom of this email).
Thanks to everyone that came along to the AGM last Wednesday, there are a few things I'd like to highlight from the meeting:
- On behalf of the committee I'd like to say a big thanks to Andy Railton for all his hardwork (and there was quite a lot of hardwork) during his time as Chairman (Andy will be staying on the committee as an ordinary member).
- We now welcome last years vice-chairman, Dick Freer, to the Chair of the club committee.
- I'd like to thank Paul Parker and Michelle Aukland for there assistance over the past year as ordinary members of the club committee.
- And also welcome Suzie Imber to the committee as an ordinary member.
- The remaining committee members are the same as last year, you can find the committee's details on the website.
- The full minutes of the AGM will be available in due course, but several motions were passed which amended the clubs bye-laws. You will find the updated version on the website in the members area.
We've got busy time coming up with a Mountain Biking trip to the Forest of Dean this weekend. Followed by our trip to Fontainebleau over the easter weekend.
You should also all have received emails inviting you to our Spring 'open' bouldering competition, and also our Love the hut weekend. Keep an eye out for invitations to more events in the next few weeks (and if you can't wait check out the full meets list on the website).
Hopefully see lots of you at bouldering on Tuesday or climbing on Thursday.
Have a great week!
Hope you are all having a good weekend!
This time I am emailing you with a request for a little assistance. I am off to Fountainebleau at the end of the month and I would really like to have my own bouldering mat to take with me. Does anyone have (or know of) a bouldering mat that is in need of a new home?
I would like to put in the order for the Club T-Shirts & Hoodies in the next two weeks. So if you would like to order T-Shirts or Hoodies can you fill in the order form and send it to me ASAP. The order form was attached to the original Email, you can also download the order form from the club website by looking at the previous items on the front page of the website.
Hope you've all had a lovely weekend whether you were in North Wales for our hut meet, at the Awesome walls in Sheffield on Sunday, or having your own adventures (as I was in the Brecon Beacons).
As you should all already know via email, we are hosting the 4th Croft Hills Race on Wednesday 29th April (7pm). This is a great race to enter even if you're 'not a runner'. I'll be there, sporting my Bowline Club T-Shirt, and it would be great to see as many of you as possible entering as well (and sporting your Bowline Club T-Shirts too).
I'll just give one final little reminder of the club AGM this Wednesday. Hope to see lots of you there!
There will be more details later this week for our trip to the Lake district on the first May bank holiday. Also keep an eye out in the next few weeks for details of our trip to the Dolomites in late August. And remember you can always find the full meets list on the website.
Don't forget bouldering at The Station on Tuesday and climbing at The Tower on Thursday!
Have a great week!
Can I remind everyone that it is the club AGM next Wednesday at 7:30 PM at the Black Horse in Aylestone.
On the announcement notice sent out by Email there were several attachments, can I ask everyone to print out their own copies.
Hope to see you there.
North Wales never disappoints and my weekend spent at the hut was no exception. Even though the wind was in full fury on Saturday we still managed to head to northern coast and find some dry sheltered rock to climb (along with caves too explorer too). Great times were had back at the hut on Saturday night. And then Sunday was pretty wet so we played tourists and visited the Electric Mountain in Llanberis. I can confirm the hut is all clean and ready for those of you heading up for the first club hut meet this coming weekend. Wish I was joining you but this is the only one I can't make this year, have a great time!
If you follow our Facebook page you will have seen the news that Greg Boswell has put up a new super hard winter route in Scotland (possibly the hardest winter trad route around). The 2nd person up this new route was Bowliner, Masa Sakano, who belayed Greg on this epic new route. For Masa's perspective on the day check out his blog here (and Masa has also provided another update on happenings North of the border, see below).
The BMC have announced their Clubs Workshop Programme for 2015. Bigger than ever with new courses available. More details and booking information is available at www.thebmc.co.uk/club-training-courses-2015. All the courses are subsidised by a grant from Sport England and include all instruction and self-catering accommodation on the Friday and Saturday nights.
We are also pleased to announce that the club will be hosting the 4th Croft Hills Race on Wednesday 29th April at 7pm. Full details will be on the website tomorrow and you will all receive an invitation via email as usual. This is a short fun race that anyone can enter (even I managed to run it last year), so come along and give it a go (or if you really can't face running it then come along and help with the marshalling).
And last but by no means least we've had some new faces down at The Tower last Thursday and at the Climbing Station on Tuesday. Great to see potential new members joining our merry band. Hope to see you all again this week.
Have a great week everybody!
Hi one and all,
Although I spent most of the weekend in fairly urban areas for a change, it did not escape my attention that there is a hint of spring in the air. And it got me thinking about the many weekends I hope to be spending at sunny crags in the company of my fellow Bowliners. So I'm crossing my fingers for good weather next weekend when I shall be heading out to our lovely club hut for some adventures.
And talking of adventures it seems the current conditions have got Bowliners in a frenzy of winter climbing with routes being climbed in Wales, Scotland and Norway. Makes me feel a little bit bad for wishing the spring to come soon. Perhaps in a future year when I've sampled the delights of winter climbing I may feel differently. But in any case I hope that if you've been out braving the cold, whether it be to climb, cycle, run or walk; you've been having some great times!
Looks like we've had a bit of a last minute run on places for the Mountain Biking meet which is great. Still a few places left if you want to join us (friends/partners/etc all welcome too).
And of course we have our first hut meet coming up on the 14th March. Get together with your Bowline buddies and enjoy the delights of Snowdonia knowing you've got a warm, comfortable hut to return to after the days adventures.
It was good to see a group of Bowliners down at The Tower last Thursday. We will be there again this Thursday so come along and join us. And of course there will be Bouldering Tuesday at the climbing station.
Attached is an order form for Club T-Shirts and Hoodies. We've put the club logo on the Front of the Clothing and the Legend "Bowline Climbing Club" on the back. The back of the form shows an example of what the T-Shirt looks like and I can promise you probably won't look as ugly as your club chairman.
We've selected two colours Royal Blue for the Unisex T-shirts/Hoodies and Sky Blue for the Female fit T-Shirts and also as a second option for the Unisex Hoodies. I Hasten to add at this point that your club secretary chose the Female colour. Anyway I think that the form is fairly self explanatory. You can fill the form in electronically, in Adobe Acrobat click the Sign button top right and then the Add Text button. Then fill in the form, save it and send it back to me.
