Bowline CC - Christmas bouldering competition

E-mail sent by Andrew Potter, Friday, 8th December 2017 @ 3:13pm

Hey Everyone,

Great to see lots of you at our slideshow. A really diverse range of inspiring adventurers were shown, thanks to Claudia, Tony & Rachael, Simon, Rob, David, and Hadyn.

We have one more meet to see out 2017... get ready to have fun and test your skills against your fellow Bowline Boulderers at our annual Christmas Bouldering competition on Tuesday 13th December, 19:00 at The Climbing Station in Loughborough. With pizza's to share afterwards and fun prizes it's the place to be!

The competition kicks off at 19:30 sharp and you'll want to warm up first so we suggest you get there for 19:00. This year we will have two main competitions, one fun competition with a handicap system to make it as fair as possible. And a 'serious' points based competition for those like that kind of thing. In both cases you'll need a partner to climb with and you'll get 50 minutes to complete as many routes possible.

At 20:30 we will have the speed climbing competition set by Mr Richards, this will be the same format as last year with pairs of climbers racing to be the fastest across the wall.

After the competition we'll gather for Pizzas and drinks upstairs. There will be a prize for the male and female winner of each of the main competitions and also the winning pair in the speed climbing competition. We'll also have a free raffle with some bonus prizes.

It costs £5 to enter. Cash on the day please (ideally the exact amount).

Look forward to seeing you there,

Bowline CC - BMC Organisation Review Group report and survey

E-mail sent by Andrew Potter, Monday, 27th November 2017 @ 2:17pm

Hi Bowliners,

I'd like to draw your attention to the recent release of the BMC Organisational Review Group report and the survey for members to give their feedback on the report.

This is a really important time for the BMC and its members, and that means you guys because as a BMC affliated club you are all members of the BMC. The BMC is a membership organisation and as such it is critical that it has feedback from the membership to help guide the work that is done by the BMC's volunteers and staff. The Organisational Review Group report makes a number of recommendations which will shape the future of the BMC if they are accepted by the membership at the next BMC AGM.

The Organisational Review Group would really like to receive lots of feedback from members about the recommendations so there is time to make any changes in advance of the AGM. They have put together an online survey to help make this as easy as possible. You should all have received an email from the BMC about this which contains a link to the survey, please please take a moment to review the report, even if you just read the summary version and then complete the survey. This needs to be done before the 22nd December. In case you didn't receive the email the survey can be found here -

You can find the reports on this page of the BMC website -

Bowline CC - Improvements to the hut, have your say!

E-mail sent by Andrew Potter, Thursday, 28th September 2017 @ 5:13pm

Hi Bowliners,

For over 12 months now we have been in the process of planning, and preparing for, some major improvement works to our club hut. All being well we will be ready to do the works in the early part of 2018. The core of the planned works is the fitting of new insulation to the walls in the main living room and the bedroom of the hut. We are also taking the opportunity to improve the lighting and electric points in these rooms.

As this work will require us to empty the hut of all the tables, sofa's, bed's, etc, the hut will necessarily be unavailable to be used for a period of around 4 weeks. The nature of the works means that all the wall panelling will be removed and the ceilings will also need to be taken down. This means that we can consider the possibility of doing other improvements to the hut at the same time whilst the hut is empty and the walls/ceilings have been stripped back.

As users of the club hut we would like to hear any practical, and financially achievable, suggestions from club members for things we could do to improve the hut that might fit in with the work we already have planned. Please send your suggestions to the hut secretary (Dave Toach, and he will collate the idea's for the committee to review at our next meeting on 1st November.

If you would like to come along to the committee meeting to discuss your idea's in person that would be fine too. Club members are welcome to attend all committee meetings.

Kind regards,

Andy Potter

Bowline CC - New door at the hut, key holders take note!

E-mail sent by Andrew Potter, Wednesday, 27th September 2017 @ 3:29pm

Hi All,

We now have a new front door at Dinorwic Mill Cottage, which has meant a change in the lock. If you are an existing key holder, you can exchange it for a new one. If you are not a key holder, then you can have a key for a deposit of £15. To exchange or obtain a key, contact Dave Toach at A new key has been put into the key safe so if you arrive at the hut with the old key, you can still gain access. For the current code contact either Paul Parker or Dave Toach.

Kind regards,
