Did we have a good time at the hut for our BBQ meet? I'll let Andy Richards mini meet report do the talking:
"Climbing started @ Holyhead in dense supernatural sea mist, with the boat horns sounding. Andy Potter led Harper n Ruth up Black n Tan, then Bruvers, which everyone loved. I took new member Luke up Tension and there was plenty of that in the air when a bush nearly swallowed Luke whole.
Sunday we headed down to Costa Del Tremadog in glorious sunshine Zoe Pickering took Lizzy Jones n Luke up PNP. I ticked Scratch in fine style, Andy Harper lead and loved the best pitch of PNP. And Mr Potter ticked off the lovely but bold n airy Micah Eliminate. I wonder if one of those tiny new cams got placed? (Ed: yes it did)
Graham and Yvonne Alexander (currently MIA with the Chocolate cake!), last seen drinking tea at Eric's! Mmmmm."
Fancy getting out to the the mountains for a walk but don't fancy driving all that way yourself. Well then why not meet up the West Bromwich Mountaineering Club who will be holding their next monthly coach meet on Sunday 13th August 2017 heading to the Berwyns. Bowline members are welcome to attend this event. The Luxury coach will depart Edward Street Car Park West Bromwich (postcode B70 8HU) at 07.00am promptly, there is free car parking on a Sunday, leave the car, sit back and relax.
There will be 2 drop offs at Llangynog and Milltir Gerrig with the pick up later in the day at Llangynog. Coach will arrive back in the Midlands at around 21.30 hours. Anyone unsure of navigating in the hills? No worries join some of experienced members on a led walk. Prices to guests is £22 and under 16s and full time students £8.00, anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. To book on the coach, contact the WBMC coach secretary Nigel Tarr on 07703345.
Enjoy our ever popular bouldering evening this Tuesday at The Climbing Station. And also come out for some evening trad this Thursday day evening at Turningstone Edge near Matlock.
It was great to be back out in the Peak District on Sunday, and to think I nearly decided not to go along. Certainly was a worthwhile trip with some great routes ticked off including Knights Move and Great Crack at Burbage North (thanks to Andy Richards for encouraging me to do Great Crack, not the kind of route I'd usually go for at the grade). When I arrived at the crag, a little later than everybody else, it was great to see some new faces being welcomed into the group, hope to see Adam and Matt (pictured on the right climbing Pete's Progress) out with us again soon!
Also out at the weekend, and taking on something a little tougher than climbing in the sunshine, was Zoe Procter who completed the Wasdale Fell Race on Saturday in a very respectable 5 hours and 19 minutes. Well done Zoe!
If all this talk of great weekend adventures has whet your appetite then it's not too late to join us for the BBQ at the club hut weekend. There is still one place left at the time of writing so if you'd like to join us get in touch with the hut secretary (Dave Toach).
Now if you're thinking of enjoying some european sport climbing this autumn then why not join our growing group of club members who are off to enjoy the paradise that is Kalymnos. Check out the details on the website.
Thursday climbing will be happening this week but we are just watching the forecast to see where to go. Expect an invite tomorrow.
Have a great week!
What a busy weekend, if you weren't out with the Bowliners then you were missing out! We had a lovely time at the Bryn Hafod hut in southern Snowdonia for our summer meal trip. A beautiful and remote feeling location with some proper adventure style climbs to enjoy. Find out more about the trip in the article by Liz Morrison over on the website. Also enjoying the weekend was a crew of Bowliners taking part in the Saunders Mountain Marathon in the Lake District. Well done to Rob Goodman and Simon Perry for finishing in 5th place in the Carrock Fell class, an excellent result. And a special mention to Andy Richards and Lizzy Jones for winning the heaviest rucksacks award!
We've had a change of date for our Family meet in September. This will now be happening on the weekend of 30th Sept/1st October. We've still got 4 places available, details on the website.
The next club weekend trip meet is our BBQ at the club hut on the weekend of the 15th/16th July, don't forget to book your place. And if you can't wait till then to join us for a climbing then we are planning to go to the Peak District this Sunday. We'll send out an email with the time and place to meet once the forecast is clearer.
Hope to see you at the crag soon,
Sadly it's pretty damp outside today so we'll have to fallback to The Tower for some indoor climbing. I'll be there from 7pm.
Looking out of the window you might think the best of the summer is already behind us. But fear not the forecast for the weekend is much better, including southern Snowdonia where we are heading for our Summer Meal. There are still some places left in the lovely Bryn Hafod hut and it would be great to fill the hut so get your places booked now via the website. If anyone is stuck for transport I can offer up to 3 people a lift from Leicester.
I was just looking back to find my last email and realised it was before our awesome trip to Northumberland. Well I could easily spend a whole email telling you how great the trip was but sadly there is no time to do that right now. Just ask one of those that went to tell you all about it, and while your at it you can also ask them about our weekend of sunshine in Snowdonia with the guys from the Ceunant club.
If all this talk of great meets has got you wishing you'd come along then fear not, we've got a whole load more great trips before the year is out. You should have received some email invites to these over the past month, but remember you can always find all the list of meets on the website. We've even got a couple of the trips for next year planned already including Joshua Tree at New Year and Fontainebleau in April, I'm excited for these already!
As many of you enjoy heading to Snowdonia it would be good to take a minute to review the Snowdon partnership plan and give your feedback. Check out this article from the BMC for more details and links to the plan.
Looks like we'll have to make do with climbing indoors this Thursday thanks to the weather, will send out an email to confirm tomorrow morning. Hope you enjoy your weekend and hopefully see you all out on the crag very soon.
