Bowline CC -

E-mail sent by Michael Jones, Monday, 16th March 2020 @ 6:17pm

Dear all,

Sadly the club has had to make the hard decision on Font.

This has been cancelled as per the latest advice from NHS England and GovUK regarding travel, risk and isolation.

I know this is very disappointing for you all but Font will still be there, maybe something later this year?

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news.

Bowline CC - FORMAL POSTPONEMENT OF AGM RE COVID-19

E-mail sent by Andy Railton, Saturday, 14th March 2020 @ 7:36pm

Dear Club Member,

Due to the rapidly escalating number of people being diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus we have concluded that it would not be responsible for the Club to hold its AGM at the end of March, which would involve bringing together upwards of 40 people in a relatively confined space.

Although we realise that the Club's Rules of Association require us to hold a General meeting in March, under the current circumstances it is better to postpone the AGM,  rather than running the risk of potentially further spreading the virus to our nearest and dearest and wider in the community.

Therefore this Email gives formal notice to postpone the AGM.

We are postponing the date of the AGM until late June or early July, as soon as we have a practical date we will let you know. If nearer the time of June/July it looks like an AGM at this time is not feasible then we will postpone the date again till September, after the summer holidays.

Regards

Andy Railton (Hon) Secretary

Bowline CC - NOTICE OF AGM 16:00 28th MARCH PETER PIZZERIA LEICESTER LE1 6ZH

E-mail sent by Andy Railton, Saturday, 7th March 2020 @ 9:27pm

Hey Bowliners!

It's Annual General Meeting time again - this is your club and the AGM is a great opportunity to get involved in shaping the future of the club.  Your committee have been busy responding to member's suggestions and feedback over the past year and we have proposals to discuss and where appropriate vote on;

· Family membership - a recommendation from the committee to create a Family Membership scheme to allow members kids (and grandchildren) to join formally so they become more closely associated with the club and can be covered by the BMC's third party liability insurance.

· Membership fee updates - proposals for the new Family Membership rates for under 18s and refinements to membership fees of other categories to reflect a year's experience of these and help address some anomalies – to be fully discussed at the AGM and voted on of course.

· Some updates to the Byelaws the committee think will better reflect today's club

· Charnwood Hills Race – a full discussion of the impact to our finances of not being able to run this year's race and the steps we plan to take over the coming months to try and protect next year's event

· We also need to elect Committee officers and members for the coming year (another great way to get involved - the current membership secretary is standing down next year and we will need to elect a vice chair for next year - so if you're interested in joining the committee team please let us know!).

To comply with our rules, we need at least a quarter of eligible members to attend the AGM but in reality, we want as many as possible to ensure discussion and voting reflects the views of the wider club.  To help with this we're holding it again at "Peter (Pete's) Pizzeria" - the venue for last year's successful AGM.  Sadly club funds don't stretch to subsidising either beer or pizza but we hope you'll stay on and enjoy both with fellow members after the event - there's a link on the website to register interest for food so Peter's team know roughly how many want to stay on.

Attached you'll find the formal agenda with helpful explanatory notes on the all the motions being voted on, the changed Byelaws and of course the Club’s Income & Expenditure account for 2019.  Please remember, whilst only paid up full members can vote at the meeting, we welcome views of all so come along and get involved.  And don't forget - if you can't attend in person please take a moment to complete a Proxy Voting form to ensure you have a say in the future of your club

So, can you please mark in your diary to attend the AGM on the 28th March.

NOW THE FORMAL BIT

This is the formal notice of the Bowline Climbing Club AGM at 16:00 at Peter Pizzeria, Leicester LE1 6ZH on Saturday 28th March.

Under the Club's Rules of Association we are only allowed to vote on Motions at the AGM that have been circulated at least 14 days prior to the AGM. Club Subscriptions, Hut Fees and Votes to elect committee members are standing items on the AGM agenda and don't need to be proposed as a Motion.

If you can't attend the AGM you may either vote on the Motions that are appended to the attached AGM Agenda on the Proxy Voting Slip OR nominate someone to vote in your place (also on the Proxy Voting Slip) as a proxy who is going to attend the AGM and is ELIGIBLE to vote. You MUST however send in your completed Proxy Voting Slip to the Club Secretary either by Email or Post within 48 hours of the date of AGM, that is by 16:00 on Thursday the 26th of March.

Club Secretary Email: clubsecretary@bowlineclimbingclub.co.uk

Club Secretary Address: 8, Harrier Close, Broughton Astley, Leicester, LEICS, LE9 6RU

PS - All the files attached are PDF so they should be easy to download and view, the Modified Byelaws are also attached as a WORD file, because they print better in that format.

Bowline CC - BMC ODG REVIEW Strategy for Clubs

E-mail sent by Andy Railton, Saturday, 7th March 2020 @ 5:52pm

Hi All,

Please see below an Email received from the BMC regarding a strategy for the clubs that has been developed as part of the ODG Review. As you can see from the Email below they are looking for responses to the proposals by the 22nd March. You can either respond directly via the link below or send you comments back myself or Andy Potter to be raised at the next area meeting on the 18th March or attend the area meeting yourself.

Regards

Andy Railton

Sent on behalf of the ODG Clubs Workstream……

Dear Clubs,

The Clubs Workstream of the BMC's Organisational Development Group has been working over the past year to develop our thinking on how the BMC should develop and deepen its relationship with its affiliated clubs. In June 2019, we published a report setting out the results of our research and consultation, setting out a number of changes to the representative structures for clubs and laying out a number of issues to be addressed.

We are now reaching the end of our work, and are pleased to present a draft clubs strategy to guide the work of the BMC in this area over the coming years. This strategy builds on our findings and recommendations in the interim report and converts them into a viable work plan for future BMC volunteers to take forward.
We’ve set four objectives to encourage the development of a partnership relationship between the BMC and its clubs, laid out the work needed to achieve them and defined key measures of our success. We've presented a graphical overview of the strategy below and you can view the full document on the ODG website here.

It is important that clubs and their committees have a meaningful input into the work done on their behalf. We encourage clubs to provide their comments on this draft at their local Area meeting, through their local BMC clubs rep or via the ODG website by the 22nd March 2020. A final version will be presented to the Board at their April 2020 meeting.

Clubs are asked to review the draft strategy, and consider the following questions:

1. Do you agree with the direction of the strategy, the aim and the four objectives?
2. Do you agree with the proposed projects? Can you see any practical issues?
3. Are there other areas of work we could do that would help us reach our objectives
4. Is there anything you think that would be relevant to your club that has been omitted / missed from the projects and objectives?
If you have any questions, then please get in touch with your BMC clubs rep or submit them via the form on the ODG website.

Many thanks for your input into this work,

Mike Spooner

Hey folks,

So following on from the Boulder competition at Social Climbing, I think its fair to say it was a fun night with lots of friendly competitiveness. 16 entrants in total. Pictures are on the facebook page.

I'd just like to extend my thanks to Zoe Pickering and Andy Richards, these two really made the comp what it was and selflessly gave up their own scores to help make it all run smoothly. (Legends)

There were some great prizes handed out and to claim them you simply need to email me and I will arrange what needs to be arranged.
Congratulations to Ninja Nigel for taking the Top spot on the Problems, he is a machine! A bowline buff in a colour of your chosing awaits you.
Mr Chairman himself and new member Sophie took the team traverse crown winning a free night in the club hut.
The blind speed wall had 3 prizes, Alix took the free session at social climbing and Andy P and Sophie took the exclusive 2 hour PPB talk.

Thank you all for taking part.

E-mail sent by Michael Jones, Monday, 24th February 2020 @ 6:44pm

Hey folks,

so tomorrow is the boulder competition at social climbing.
i hope to see you there. It would be great if you could be there and ready to go by 18:45. Comp starts at 19:00.

After you've signed in with the guys at social come and find me over by the sofas.

entry to the comp is £1 and there are some great prizes to be won. There is a couple of free nights in the club hut, a prestigious bowline buff, a free pass to social climb and finally the grand prize(which is far too amazing to put into words).

food will be supplied by a 3 for £10 pizza deal from a well reviewed source. So depending on how hungry you are........ but basically <£3 gets you entry to the comp and fed.
there is also a small faction wishing to order in from Grounded kitchen. The foods great but it starts at £6pp. Decide on the day and I will take your order on entry.

The comp will last approximately an hour and a bit, then we can chow down while I tot up the scores and present the prises.

manditory drinks will follow after, so even if you can't make the comp we will see you in the pub!!!

If this is your first visit please register at https://app.rockgympro.com/waiver/esign/socialclimbing/5c93190b-b6bb-40d3-a42e-da51eae8fa03 to speed up your entry.

Take care and bring your A game.

Mike

Bowline CC - WOLF run

E-mail sent by Andrew Potter, Thursday, 30th January 2020 @ 8:22pm

Hey Bowliners,

Over the past couple of years a crack team of Bowliners and friends have had a brilliant time getting muddy and wet whilst taking part one of the WOLF run events. Tony Hextall has orchestrated our entry for the WOLF run and he is looking to form a 'pack' to enter one of this years events (Tony is also open to suggestions of other potential events to enter of a similar nature). No previous experience required just a sense of fun and adventure.

If you're interested get in touch with Tony now as these events are very popular so booking in good time is essential. Email hextall1@btinternet.com.
