• Bank holiday North Lakes Meet - CANCELLED

    Friday, 28th August 2020 at 12pm - 5pm Monday, 31st August
    Location: Bowderstone Bunkhouse

This trip has been cancelled due to the situation with COVID-19.

This August bank holiday we are visiting the Lake District for some wonderful adventures.

The Bowderstone hut is in the heart of the lakes and is nicely secluded with a 1 mile walk to a pub/tea room. Parking is very short walk away.
Its really well priced, £25 for the 3 nights.
The Bunkhouse is heated by 2 wood-burning stoves and is dog-friendly! Hot water is provided by electric heaters and it has a simply equipped kitchen (with two x 2-ring electric hobs, fridge, microwave, a selection of pans and basic cutlery and crockery), accessible shower-room (+ extra WC) and communal area. Linen and mattresses are not provided – we suggest bringing sleeping bags and camping-type self-inflating mattresses.

There is so much to do there is not nearly enough time.

The places usually sell out fairly quickly so I recommend booking places promptly. To book a place at the Hut you need to purchase a ticket

For further details please contact Michael Jones meetsec@bowlineclimbingclub.co.uk

    Saturday, 12th September 2020 at 10am - 8pm Saturday, 19th September
    Location: Lundy

This trip has been cancelled due to the situation with COVID-19.

For those looking for something a little different, Lundy has a lot to offer, with a broad range of grades, countless classics, and a wild and remote feel. The journey across in the MS Oldenburgh is unforgettable and only adds to the 'island experience', which really is quite unlike anything on the mainland.

Camping is available very cheaply or for those looking for something a little more comfortable then there is self catering options.

  • Bowline Climbing Club AGM - by Zoom - Tuesday 22nd September 19:30

    Tuesday, 22nd September 2020 at 7:30pm - 10pm
    Location: BY ZOOM

The Bowline Climbing Club’s 2020 Annual General Meeting will be held by Zoom on the 22nd September starting 19:30 sharp.

To comply with our rules, we need at least a quarter of eligible members to attend the AGM but in reality, we want as many as possible to ensure discussion and voting reflects the views of the wider club. To this end we would please ask you to register your atendance at the AGM and answer the questions when you register your attendance.

    Your committee have been busy responding to member's suggestions and feedback over the past year and we have proposals to discuss and where appropriate vote on;

    ·
Family membership - a recommendation from the committee to create a Family Membership scheme to allow members kids (and grandchildren) to join formally so they become more closely associated with the club and can be covered by the BMC's third party liability insurance.

    · Membership fee updates - proposals for the new Family Membership rates for under 18s and refinements to membership fees of other categories to reflect a year's experience of these and help address some anomalies – to be fully discussed at the AGM and voted on of course.

    · Some updates to the Byelaws the committee think will better reflect today's club,

    · Charnwood Hills Race – a full discussion of the impact to our finances of not being able to run this year's race and also the likely impact of Covid on next year's race and the steps we plan to take to try and protect the race in the future

    · Covid and the Club – a full discussion of the impact of Covid on the Club and ways to manage this

    · We also need to elect Committee officers and members for the coming year (another great way to get involved - the current membership secretary is standing down next year and we will need to elect a vice chair for next year - so if you're interested in joining the committee team please let us know!).

The Formal agenda, explanatory notes, new byelaws, and income/expenditure accounts have been sent to all club members via email. Please remember, whilst only paid up full members can vote at the meeting, we welcome views of all so come along and get involved.  And don't forget - if you can't attend in person please take a moment to complete a Proxy Voting form to ensure you have a say in the future of your club!

From the formal invite you will see that you can either participate in the AGM by using the Zoom App or via the Zoom Website on a suitable device. This is much the preferred option as it allows you to vote on-line and it's easier for the club to manage.

If you don't have a PC, Laptop, Tablet or Smart Phone then you can dial into the meeting on a landline or simple mobile, but you will need to find a way to vote by Email. If there are two or more of you using a single device then again only one of you can vote on the device, the others will need to vote by Email

It is very important that the Club knows beforehand if you intend to vote by Email. So please let us know at least 48 hours beforehand if you need to vote by Email, then we can check off your vote at the AGM. To this end we would ask you to register for the AGM and answer the registration questions.

Under the Club's Rules of Association we are only allowed to vote on Motions at the AGM that have been circulated at least 14 days prior to the AGM. Club Subscriptions, Hut Fees and Votes to elect committee members are standing items on the AGM agenda and don't need to be proposed as a Motion.

If you can't attend the AGM you may either vote on the Motions that are appended to the attached AGM Agenda on the Proxy Voting Slip OR nominate someone to vote in your place (also on the Proxy Voting Slip) as a proxy who is going to attend the AGM and is ELIGIBLE to vote. You MUST however send in your completed Proxy Voting Slip to the Club Secretary either by Email or Post within 48 hours of the date of AGM, that is by 19:30 on Sunday the 20th of September.

    Club Secretary Email: clubsecretary@bowlineclimbingclub.co.uk

Club Secretary Address: 8, Harrier Close, Broughton Astley, Leicester, LEICS, LE9 6RU

We hope very much to see you at the AGM on the 22nd of September.

    Regards

    Andy Railton (Club Secretary)
